Blueberry-Filled Cinnamon Rolls

These delightful blueberry-filled cinnamon rolls are soft, sweet, and perfect for breakfast or dessert, topped with a creamy glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the filling:
  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring to combine. Add the remaining 1/4 cup of flour as needed, until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Evenly distribute the fresh blueberries over the filling.
  7. Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a towel, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust thickness with more milk or powdered sugar as necessary.
  11. Once the rolls are baked, remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before drizzling the glaze over the top.

Notes

These rolls can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator before rising for a fresh-baked taste. For a twist, try adding lemon zest to the glaze for extra flavor.
